Here's what I think of... | |

"It means that we’re just dolls. We don’t have a clue what’s really going down, we just kid ourselves that we’re in control of our lives while a paper’s thickness away things that would drive us mad if we thought about them for too long play with us, and move us around from room to room, and put us away at night when they’re tired, or bored."
Once again, I find that the Sandman comics of Neil Gaiman do things to my head. They make me think. They make me wonder. They give me insights, some of which I am pleased to get, and others I am not.
The stories told in the volume are nothing short of interesting. Serial killers’ conventions and kingdoms of dreams thrown in together make one heckuva work of art. I’m not too fond of the styles of art, but the colors and atmospheres do help the whole thing come alive. And when it does, it’s fantastic.
This volume is the work of a genius. I’ll say that much. A world of its own, that’s what it is.

Oh gawd.
Well, when people make a big deal out of a book, some will tend to become curious and pick up the book and read it to find out what the the fuss is all about, right? As is my case with this book.
Mushy. Muuuushy. Mushy mush mushed up between two mushy pieces of mush. Got it memorized? That's what it is, a cleverly spun web of dark romance between Bella (human) and Edward (vampire).
Sure, it's nothing I haven't seen before. But after some five hundred pages of it, I suppose this could have gone in a completely different, worse direction. The storyline manages to twist into itself smoothly, moving from one chapter to the next in a satisfying pace that really picks up near the end. While the characters are stereotyped, they're put out quite interestingly. They've all got a niche. And the author's writing style is really impressive. Props for that.
It's another take on vampires, and this one works out pretty well in the end. But oh, the mush. Too much. >_< I know, it's a romance book, but still. Haha. While i start on the sequel, I wonder how the movie will work out.
Oh, and Alice rocks. ^_^ When need to study on a Saturday before trimestral examinations and don’t want to, the best thing to do is go to attend a musical. Haha.
I had no idea about Into the Woods before I watched. No idea of the plot, the stories, nothing. So I had no expectations. And altogether, it did better than I hoped. I’m into musicals, and after this I’m throwing this onto my list.
The whole thing is another screw-up-some-fairy-tales and make-fun-of-its-own-genre thing. We see a lot of that nowadays, eh? The first act was hilarious – Always something to laugh at despite the dark-ish setting. The sense of humor, upon reflection, was really very grim and morbid, but heck, that’s the way it way it rolls and it rolls well. Some of the songs were boring, but otherwise it was fun, and the choreographies of some songs were pretty good.
The second act takes a steep, emotional turn, but hints of the morbid comedy were still scattered about. Lots of deaths though, all of which come so quickly you lose track of who’s died. After ups and downs I guess it finished off strongly.
Some characters are like just epaling around, and the stage set could have used a curtain, but there’s no denying that the production was good. The actors of the New Voice company (I think that’s what it’s called) are the best assets, and some of the songs will get stuck in your head long after you leave the theater, just cuz the tunes are so addicting, much like coffee. Good fun, too. Yayness.

My sister and my cousin and I watched this the other week in Shang, when I was supposed to be cramming in some projects. XD Usually I'm not into horror, but the title and the trailers were catchy, so meh.
The whole thing had an interesting concept and plotline. Who doesn't love vampires? Thing is, the first half hour of the movie was just dragging. Didn' know if i felt like sleeping already. When the vampires started popping up and speaking their cool language, things got interesting. The pace quickened, but even so, it kinda dragged on.
While the action scenes and the vampires were portrayed very well, the movie doesn't really do anything very new for its genre. In the end, it's just another rather well-made vampire movie. Some scenes are indeed scary, and the gory scenes are indeed gory... *shudder* ... but it's not an end-of-your-seat thriller, and it could have used a lot of retouching in places. Especially the hammy love story. Haaaaaaaammy.
If you're not a big fan of this type of movie, you're not missing much. If you are, it's definitely worth a look. | JOY | Oct 26, '07 10:50 AM for everyone |

Haha! There's Miguel, and he finally shows us what he's been practicing over the last couple of months.
Yeah, Im just postin this to get a reaction from him and fill up a review. :P
Kundirana's concert this time seemed to have a jazzy disco theme, which somehow worked pretty well with set. Not always my style, but I figured they pulled it off well anyway. The costumes were everything from Star Trek to overdone disco ensembles. I wanted one of those costumes.
In terms of voicing and singing, they just had to be impeccable, right? There's a reason they stay up half the night just singing and singing their throats off. All the songs were done smoothly. After a while the songs started to sound the same and it began to drag a bit (sorry, Miguel) but altogether it was a fine concert. There will be moments that totally grab your attention, and i suppose it's worth it. I guess we've come to expect that from Kundirana, eh?
