When need to study on a Saturday before trimestral examinations and don’t want to, the best thing to do is go to attend a musical. Haha.

I had no idea about Into the Woods before I watched. No idea of the plot, the stories, nothing. So I had no expectations. And altogether, it did better than I hoped. I’m into musicals, and after this I’m throwing this onto my list.

The whole thing is another screw-up-some-fairy-tales and make-fun-of-its-own-genre thing. We see a lot of that nowadays, eh? The first act was hilarious – Always something to laugh at despite the dark-ish setting. The sense of humor, upon reflection, was really very grim and morbid, but heck, that’s the way it way it rolls and it rolls well. Some of the songs were boring, but otherwise it was fun, and the choreographies of some songs were pretty good.

The second act takes a steep, emotional turn, but hints of the morbid comedy were still scattered about. Lots of deaths though, all of which come so quickly you lose track of who’s died. After ups and downs I guess it finished off strongly.

Some characters are like just epaling around, and the stage set could have used a curtain, but there’s no denying that the production was good. The actors of the New Voice company (I think that’s what it’s called) are the best assets, and some of the songs will get stuck in your head long after you leave the theater, just cuz the tunes are so addicting, much like coffee. Good fun, too. Yayness.
